About the Band

The Encore Concert Band is a community-based performance ensemble, comprised of over 60 musicians from the south and west suburbs.

Founded in 1999 by Music Director Emeritus Bill Schuetter, the band performs concerts throughout the year in many towns in the Chicagoland area. The ECB performs a wide variety of music, from the classics to Broadway hits, ensuring that there is always something for any music lover to enjoy at their concerts.

The Encore Concert Band is a not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) organization. Its goals are to offer local adult musicians the opportunity to play quality band music together, to foster a greater appreciation for music among members of the community, and to provide musical entertainment of the highest level for their audience.

The Encore Concert Band is a member of the Association of Concert Bands (www.acbands.org)

About the Music Director - Matt Jackson

​Matt Jackson joined the Encore Concert Band in 2013 as a member of the trumpet section and has been featured with the band as guest conductor and soloist. Matt earned his Bachelor of Music Education from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago. While at VanderCook, he studied conducting with Dr. Robert Sinclair, Dr. Charles Menghini, David Eccles, and Stacy Larson-Dolan, and performed with artists such as Frank Ticheli, Alan Vizzuti, and Col. Larry Lang. After graduating from VanderCook, Matt taught band for grades 4-12. Most of that time was spent as the Assistant Band Director at his alma mater, Marist High School. Matt also serves as a music adjudicator and clinician throughout the area and is a member of the Southwest Symphony Orchestra.​

About the Assistant Music Director - James Shaw

Mr. Shaw earned his Bachelor of Music degree from Illinois State University and his Illinois State Teaching Certification from Roosevelt University.  He earned his Master of Music Education from VanderCook College of Music and his Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Northeastern Illinois University.  Mr. Shaw currently teaches in one of the grade school districts in Joliet, Illinois, where for over 20 years he served as director of orchestras, bands, and audition jazz band.  He also co-directed the audition orchestra and audition band and served as the district’s Fine Arts Coordinator.  Ensembles under Mr. Shaw have routinely earned Division I ratings at I.G.S.M.A. contests and various festivals throughout the country.  Prior to teaching in Joliet, Mr. Shaw taught instrumental, vocal, and general music in various schools located in Cook and Kankakee counties.  Mr. Shaw has adjudicated solo and ensemble and marching band contests in Illinois and Indiana.  Mr. Shaw is also a low brass specialist and his main instrument is the tuba.  Both his wife and son are also musicians. ​
